Are We Alone
In The Universe?
If advanced life existed, how would it view humanity? Would they laugh with amusement? Weep in compassion and solidarity? Or perhaps would they grimace in disgust?
Celestial Grimace is the response to the anguish we as a species must bring upon that which observes us from above – And its patience is wearing thin. Gifted with knowledge and talent not of our own, Celestial Grimace has been appointed as heralds among our fellow man. How long can we continue to destroy ourselves and one another before intervention becomes necessary? Or is it already imminent? And what can be done about it? Celestial Grimace is the awareness of an existential threat both internal and external.
Celestial Grimace was born in 2012 with the concept of creating heavy, aggressive music from digital, synthesized instruments and production. Based out of Birmingham, AL our influences are drawn from an eclectic range of artists: Linkin Park, August Burns Red, Northlane, Volumes, Nine Inch Nails, Skrillex, High Society, Don Broco, Attack Attack!, 3oh!3, etc…
The band itself lacked direction in the early years as it was originally founded as a side-project and treated with great irreverence. The name Celestial Grimace was derived from a random name generator and selected because of its nonsensical pretense. The visual presence of the band became personified by a certain purple restaurant mascot who resided in space. And the first batch of songs was going to be a concept EP that told a story about a man who fell in love with a robotic escort, who later attempted to kill him, and now seeks vengeance on his mechanical ex-paramour.
This would not last however as Celestial Grimace would mature over the course of those first few years. They began to define a deeper meaning of their name and to their art. To do so they had to divorce themselves of all previous imagery and connotations, though opting to brand everything with purple – an endearing artifact of a less serious time.
